Check out this instructional video on proper double-up execution featuring Rockstar’s Rusty Malinoski. This trick requires a good driver and a good rider. Parks and Rusty definitely qualify.
Double-ups – it’s one of the toughest moves to master in wakeboarding, for both the driver and the rider. We hand this over to the masters of this domain, Parks and Rusty, as they try to help you unlock the mystery of the Double-Up!
2012 Nautique Wake Games Set for a Saturday Finale
Orlando, Fla. — Wakeboarding’s top professional and amateur riders will once again assemble in the sport’s capital, Orlando, Fla., to compete together in the largest team-formatted event in the world — the Nautique Wake Games, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. Event organizer World Sports & Marketing announced today that the 2012 Games will be played over the course of four days at the Orlando Watersports Complex, beginning Wednesday, April 11, and ending Saturday, April 14.
“Year after year, the Nautique Wake Games attracts hundreds of competitors from all over the world because it’s the only opportunity for them to team up with the sport’s top pros,” said tournament director Chris Bischoff. “So it only makes sense to host a massive event like this in the mecca of the sport — Orlando.”
During its first two days of action, the seventh annual Games will host qualifying rounds for riders competing in all 22 skill-level divisions. Among all the initial competitors, only 90 riders will emerge past the qualifying rounds and be entered into a live draft, held on site at OWC on Thursday evening, where 10 preselected captains will field their teams with a mix of pro and amateur riders.
Over the course of the event’s final two days, riders contribute points toward a team score based on individual placement in their skill-level division. The team with the highest collective score will win the overall title. All 22 divisions will crown an individual winner as well.
Last year, former world champion Rusty Malinoski captained the winning team of the 2011 Nautique Wake Games, and will look to defend his title in 2012 with the help of a new pro-am squad.
Daily event schedules and registration information for the 2012 Nautique Wake Games, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will soon be available on KingofWake.com.
Spectators will be charged admission only on Saturday, April 14. Tickets are available at the gate: $13 (adult); $5 (ages 6-12); free (ages 5 and under); or $7 (adult) if purchased at KingofWake.com before noon ET on Friday, April 13, 2012.

Orlando, Fla. – Professional wakeboarding’s elite competition series, the King of Wake, is officially in playoff mode, with the start of the 2011 Chase for the Crown. The Chase is a three-stop stretch, in which just 10 riders will try to top each other in the point standings for most prestigious crown in wakeboarding.
Since 2006, the King of Wake series has incorporated the Chase for the Crown into its format to prevent any single rider from running away with the title. In fact, the Chase format almost guarantees that the overall winner will be determined by the results of the very last contest of the season.
In order to keep things close, the King of Wake series manually adjusts the points of the top 10 riders in the standings, midway through the season, to shrink the lead between each other.
For example, without the Chase system in place, points-leader Phillip Soven would have a 258-point advantage over 10th seed Dean Smith. But with the Chase format, Soven’s 258-point lead over Smith is cut to just a 53-point difference.
The point totals of the top 10 riders were adjusted following the results of the recent Pro Tour stop in Monroe, Wash.
The following riders are involved in the 2011 Chase for the Crown: Phillip Soven, Harley Clifford, Bob Soven, Rusty Malinoski, Steel Lafferty, Aaron Rathy, Shaun Murray, Olivier Derome, Austin Hair and Dean Smith.
Those 10 riders will have the following three contests to top each other for the crown: the Nautique WWA Wakeboard Nationals (July 27-31); WWA Wakeboard Worlds (August 18-21), presented by Supra; and the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour finale (August 27 & 28).
Since its inception in 2005, the King of Wake series has only had four different crown bearers, with defending champion Phillip Soven currently in pursuit of his fourth title.

Phillip Soven Wins in Fort Worth on 22nd Birthday Wing, Powers Come Up Big in Texas
Fort Worth, Tex. – Despite the blistering 98° weather today, wakeboarding’s top pro riders turned up the heat in Texas to wrap up one of the most exciting stops yet on the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. The final rounds of action, held on the waters of Texas MasterCraft’s Lake Moser, were filled with upsets that ultimately led to three winners being crowned in Fort Worth.
The Pro Men’s division kicked off the Pro Tour’s last day in Texas with preliminary rounds, narrowing the field of 20 riders down to six for the final rounds of action.
Among the six finalists was defending Pro Tour titlist Phillip Soven, who celebrated his 22nd birthday today. The birthday boy faced off in stacked heat that included his younger brother Bob Soven, current points-leader Harley Clifford, former world champ Rusty Malinoski, world-record holder JD Webb and Canadian rail-master Olivier Derome.
The scorching weather and constant riding fatigued most of the finalist, causing several unfortunate falls. However, top seed, Harley Clifford, managed to put together what appeared to be a winning run, but not before the birthday boy could blow out his candles to narrowly edge out Clifford 95.50 to 95.00.
“This is an awesome birthday present,” Soven joked about his win today. “I worked really hard to win this contest and I’m excited to be leaving Fort Worth with the win.”
Today’s win marks Soven’s second consecutive victory in Fort Worth. Clifford and Rusty Malinoski rounded out the podium, respectively.
Phillip Soven has now twice won a Pro Tour contest on his birthday. The now 22-year-old Florida native captured his first-ever Pro Tour stop win on his 15th birthday in Reno, Nev.
With today’s win, Soven breaks the tie with Harley Clifford in the Pro Tour standings to take the top spot with 190 points.
In the Pro Women’s division, all eyes were on Nicola Butler to see if she could set the record for most consecutive Fort Worth tour stop wins at four during today’s finals. The current world champion was on pace to set the record, but suffered a crucial fall on a Tantrum, giving the edge to Amber Wing, with her stand-up run.
Wing took first place today with a score 66.67, less than seven points more than Butler’s score of 60.00. Melissa Marquardt rounded out the podium in third place.
“I thought Nicola had it; I was cheering for her,” said Wing. “But I did my run, stood up both my passes and came out on top. I’m really pumped to win this tour stop.”
With today’s win, Wing leads the Pro Women’s Queen of Wake point standings with 290 points. Butler and Marquardt also round out the top three in the standings, respectively.
In the Jr. Pro Men’s finals, the division almost saw an exact repeat of the Pro Tour season opener, with Dylan Prideaux, Josh Twelker and Shota Tezuka returning to the last round of action. Rounding out the four-man final was 2010 Jr. Pro Tour runner-up Daniel Powers.
Shota Tezuka, the current points-leader, appeared to have the edge in the competition, but Daniel Powers’s Heelside 720 off the double up helped surge the 2011 Masters winner to the top of the podium, winning his first Pro Tour stop of the season.
“It feels awesome,” Powers commented on his win today. “Coming off a win at the Masters was a good confidence booster for me, especially after what happened in Acworth.”
Tezuka and Twelker rounded out the podium, respectively.
With today’s win, Powers sits in fifth place overall in the Jr. Pro Men’s point standings with 143 points. Tezuka remains the points-leader with 190 points.
Also walking away a winner in Fort Worth today is Thailand’s Padiwat Jaemjan, who won the Rockstar Energy Drink Big-Air Kicker Contest, a $1,000 cash prize, after landing a massive Cab Glide.
With the second stop of the 2011 season all wrapped up, the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will now head to Colorado Springs, Colo., on June 10 & 11. Additional 2011 Pro Tour venues include Acworth, Ga., Monroe, Wash., and Knoxville, Tenn.
The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink is organized by World Sports & Marketing of Orlando, Fla., and has the support of the following sponsors: MasterCraft, Rockstar Energy Drink, Overton’s, Indmar, Peavey, Billabong, Hyperlite, CWB, Ronix, Liquid Force, Byerly, Oakley, Sayiwon’t, Epiphone and TransWorld WAKEBOARDING magazine.

$3,000 Up for Grabs for 2011 Wakeboard Fantasy League
Orlando, Fla. – Ever thought about who you would sign if you managed your own pro wakeboard team? Harley Clifford, Rusty Malinoski, Phillip Soven. … Well now you can, as the Fantasy Action Sports League presents the 2011 Wakeboard Fantasy League. Sign up today at www.fantasyactionsportsleague.com/fantasywakeboarding to start managing your own online fantasy wakeboard team, where $3,000 in cash + prizes are up for grabs.
Similar to other online fantasy sport games, the Wakeboard Fantasy League allows registered players to earn points for their created team(s) based on the actual outcome of each rider’s performance during course of the 2011 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour season.
Players are supplied with a salary cap, in which they use to sign as many as 10 pros to their team. Only eight of those 10 riders will contribute points toward a team score based on their selected riders’ actual placement in each of the five Pro Tour events. The remaining two pros will serve as backups in case a rider isn’t able to compete. The team with the most fantasy points at the end of the season wins.
Fantasy Action Sports League is giving away $3,000 at the completion of the season. The highest scoring player will take home $1,000, with another $1,000 split amongst the players finishing 2nd – 10th place. FASL is also giving away some swag for the teams that just missed the cash – up to 25th place.
Invite your friends and create a league for the chance to win the $1,000 top league prize, too!
Get your season started with the FREE “Wake Games” game this weekend! It’s free to play and FASL is giving away $50 to the winner! Wake Games starts this Thursday, April 28, so sign up now at www.fantasyactionsportsleague.com/fantasywakeboarding.
